INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATED AT CPCL

India’s 77th Independence Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited’s (CPCL) Manali Refinery complex this morning (15/08/2023). Mr. Arvind Kumar, Managing Director, CPCL, hoisted the National flag and took the salute from Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) contingent stationed at CPCL.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Arvind Kumar stated that Independence Day is a moment of introspection, festivity and renewed dedication to the principles that define our great nation. It serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our ancestors, resilience of our countrymen and the progress we’ve collectively achieved during the last 76 years.

This year’s theme ‘Nation First, Always First’ deeply resonates with CPCL’s guiding principles, as we contribute to the socio-economic growth and development of our country, in all possible verticals. CPCL is the sole refiner to produce and supply premium fuels of national importance like fuel for defence application JP-5, Missile Fuel for Scramjet engines JP-7 for DRDO & Rocket Propulsion fuel ISROSENE for ISRO. These initiatives align with our country’s vision of “Make in India” and Aatma Nirbhar Bharat” reducing the need for imports and showcasing our technical capabilities.

During 2022-23, CPCL achieved a record breaking throughput of 11.3 MMT beyond the design capacity of 10.5 MMT, translating to 108% capacity utilization.  This was possible with better utilisation of resources, in an energy efficient manner. CPCL also recorded the best ever financial performance on the back of robust operational performance and supported by favourable cracks spreads. CPCL achieved a good physical performance during first quarter of FY 23-24 which complemented in recording a favourable financial numbers on the positive side.

CPCL’s dedication to social responsibility is also spread out in other areas such as Healthcare and Education. CPCL donated advanced ultrasound equipment to medical institutions, to improve their diagnostic capabilities. As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahastov, CPCL organized a mega Eye Care camp at Nagapattinam.  Around 2000 patients were screened and 125patients were performed Cataract Surgeries and around 700 spectacles distributed. CPCL has partnered with organizations like Namma School Foundation, to enhance sanitation facilities in local schools. CPCL has also collaborated with Manali Industrial Association (MIA) through “Mission Manali”, and actively involved in afforestation efforts, with an objective to plant 10 lakh trees across 500 acres.

Mr.H.Shankar, Director (Technical), Mr.Rohit Kumar Agrawala, Director (Finance), Mr.P.Kannan, Director (Operations), Mr.J.T.Venkateswarlu, Chief Vigilance Officer, CPCL, Mr.Devaraj, Dy. Commandant, CISF, Collectives and employees of CPCL, CISF Jawans with families participated in the function.  Long Service Awards and Suggestion Awards were present on the occasion. Cultural programmes by children added colour to the celebrations.
